Cutting picks are tools used in mining machinery to cut coal and rock. They consist of a shank, a carbide head, a pick length, and a tooth tip length, primarily secured together through welding or inlay processes. Cutting picks come in many types and models, making them easily confused. Broadly speaking, cutting picks can be divided into two categories based on their application: mining cutting picks and engineering cutting picks. Today, we will mainly introduce mining cutting picks.
Mining cutting picks are primarily used in coal mining. They are cutting tools used on coal mining machines and tunneling machines to excavate and break coal or rock blocks.
Mining cutting picks can be classified according to their shape into two main categories: "pick-shaped cutting picks" and "knife-shaped cutting picks." Based on the type of machinery used, they can be divided into "coal mining machine cutting picks, tunneling machine cutting picks, combined mining machine cutting picks, and roadheader cutting picks." Currently, coal mining machine cutting picks and tunneling machine cutting picks are the most commonly used.
Cutting Teeth vs. Pick-Shaped Cutting Teeth
Cutting teeth can be distinguished by their appearance. Those with conical tips are tapered cutting teeth, while those with flat tips are flat cutting teeth.
Coal Mining Machine Cutting Teeth
Coal mining machine cutting teeth are the main cutting tools on the drum of an underground coal mining machine. They are installed on the drum in conjunction with tooth sleeves and tooth seats, and are among the wear parts used for coal cutting. Their performance directly affects the production capacity, power consumption, operational stability, and service life of other related components of the coal mining machinery.
Main models of coal mining machine cutting teeth include the U47, U82, U80 series (U82, U84, U85), U90 series (U92, U94, U95), and U170, etc.
Meanwhile, tunneling machine cutting teeth are the main cutting tools on the cutting head (bomb head) of a tunneling machine. They are installed on the cutting head in conjunction with tooth seats and are among the wear parts used in roadway excavation. Its performance directly affects the tunneling machine's production capacity, power consumption, operational stability, and the service life of other related components.
The main models of tunneling machine cutting picks include: U47, U135, S100, S120, S150, S110, S200, S260, and S160.
The application environment of engineering cutting picks differs from that of mining cutting picks; one is on the road surface, and the other is underground. One is an accessory for construction machinery, and the other is an accessory for mining or tunneling machinery. Based on the type of machinery, engineering cutting picks can be broadly classified into: rotary drilling rig cutting picks, milling machine cutting picks, etc. The specific usage methods are similar to those of mining cutting picks; both are installed on mining machinery.
