CNC inserts come in a wide variety of types and are widely used. They can be mainly classified into the following categories: CNC inserts can be classified into various configurations according to their geometric shape, such as square, round, octagonal, rhomboid, triangular, and curved. According to the distribution of cutting edges, they can be classified into single-sided inserts and double-sided inserts .

1. Integral type: It is made from a single piece of material. When used, the cutting part can be ground into the required shape according to different uses.

2. Insert type: It is divided into welded type and mechanically clamped type. Mechanically clamped type can be divided into non-indexable and indexable types according to the different tool body structures. Modern mechanically clampable indexable inserts have various designs. For example, the POMG double-sided pentagonal insert has ten cutting edges; the Q6-MNMG is an inwardly concave equilateral hexagonal insert; the Q3-MCMT insert adopts a positive angle structure .

3. Vibration-damping type: When the ratio of the working arm length to the diameter of the tool is greater than 4, a special structure of tool is used to reduce tool vibration and improve machining accuracy. It is mainly used for boring.

4. Internal Cooling Type: The cutting coolant is transferred to the tool body through the machine tool spindle or cutter head and then sprayed onto the cutting edge through nozzles.

5. Special Types: These include high-clamping, reversible tapping, and composite tools. CNC cutting tools mainly use indexable mechanically clamped tools.
