The pipe thread tap drill is a special tool used for processing internal pipe threads.
Pipe thread taps are a specialized tool used for machining internal threads in pipes. They are classified into two types based on the tooth profile: 60° equilateral type and 55° isosceles type. Their standards are divided into metric (parameterized by pitch, unit in millimeters) and imperial/US standard (parameterized by the number of teeth per inch, unit in inches, commonly using "fraction" as the size designation, such as 2 fractions corresponding to 1/4 inch).
This tool is classified according to international standards into ISO metric threads, UN unified threads (60° tooth profile), API petroleum pipe threads, and W threads (55° tooth profile), etc. Among the common types, NPT is the American 60° tapered pipe thread, PT is the European 55° sealing conical pipe thread (GB/T7306-2000), and G is the 55° non-sealing cylindrical thread (GB/T7307-2001). The conical pipe thread taps are specifically designed with a 1:16 taper for use in sealed pipe connections, while the cylindrical pipe thread taps are suitable for non-sealed scenarios, corresponding to processing requirements in North America, Europe, and general pipe fields respectively.
